Brief History
The City of York had been founded in 71 AD by the Romans and evolved into its capital in northern Europe. It developed into a significant wool trading point in the medieval times and continued to become a manufacturing and railway center in the 19th century. The railway system was developed and brought thousands of jobs for the locals via businesses that branched out in the city. In 1996, York became a unitary authority area. Education
