What is the best russian fighter jet ?

Best is something that kinda needs to be quantified...but in my opinion, it's the Sukhoi SU-27 family of aircraft (SU-27/30/33/35/37). These aircraft are highly maneuverable, have extremely long range (2,485 miles ), have a high top speed (1,550 mph), and can carry a very large amount of ordnance (10 hardpoints for AAMs or up to 8,820lbs of bombs [SU-27] or 14 hardpoints/13,228 lbs of bombs [SU-35/37]). The series also packs the long-range Zhuk radar, which has look-down, shoot-down capability as well as track-and-scan capabilities. The SU-27 packs two Saturn/Lyul'ka AL-31F turbofans generating over 27,000lbs of thrust per engine, and the 35/37 run AL-31M turbofans generating similar thrust but with thrust vectoring capabilities.

The 35/37 have ridiculous maneuverability, as was demonstrated at the Farnborough Airshow in 1996 by pilot Evgeniy Frolov. His SU-37 was flying at 217 mph when Frolov took it through a modified Pugachev's Cobra. Instead of flipping the aircraft inverted through a 2/3-loop and then returning to a normal flight course the way it came, Frolov inverted the aircraft fully through a loop so that it was, in essence, flying backwards. He then completed the 360 degree rotation after holding backwards for two seconds. The aircraft continued in its original flight path at 37 mph. This incredible maneuverability is due to the SU-37's canard foreplanes and thrust vectoring.

In closing, the SU-27 family is the best of the best in Russian fighter design...at least that which is in service. This may change with the SU-47 Berkut (Golden Eagle [the Russian national bird]), but the Berkut is not in service.
