Baby Identify Meanings
Speaking as a Michael (a Hebrew title, that means "Who is like God"), I'm really proud of my name. And I feel that I - mostly - reside up to the title! In fact, my mother would in all probability disagree; I think the phrase "little satan" would in all probability pass her lips if she was describing me throughout many phases of my childhood.
But then, my mother has her own points; apparently her name (Kathleen) is a Celtic identify which means "Little Darling". Hmmm, that isn't the method I used to think about her throughout those common events when she was punishing me for my "not like God" behaviour…!
And that's the fun of baby name meanings - mother and father make naming decisions based on many, many various reasons, together with family traditions, faith, tradition, uniqueness and "it simply sounds actually nice." But - in the Western world - we hardly ever do any real analysis into the historical past or real which means of child names. So when the poor/lucky little one finally finds out the which means of his/her "really nice sounding" name, the outcomes could be fascinating, ironic, unlucky or just typically hilarious.
You can have a lot of fun thinking up family/buddies names, discovering out the meanings and trying to make a connection between the two. For instance, my eldest brother Clive is outwardly "a cliff dweller", which is coincidental, since he lives on the high of a very long steep hill! Or why not play the game with celebrities - think about the next:
Badu (as in r n'b singer Erykah Badu): African name meaning "Tenth born youngster"
Winona (as in actress Winona Ryder): Sioux name which means "Firstborn daughter"
Aaliyah (the late r n'b singer): Arabic title that means "Excessive, exalted"
Hilary (as in actresses Duff/Swank): Latin title that means "Cheerful"
Some cultures have very fascinating traditions in the case of child title meanings. For example, Hindu names usually have connections with very positive things similar to reality, magnificence, happiness, blessings, etc, or one of the Hindu gods. Within the Sikh tradition, ladies historically have the middle or surname "Kaur", which means "Princess", while the boys have the middle or surname "Singh", which means "Lion".
An African friend of mine as soon as mentioned that many Africans are given a second identify equivalent to the day of the week on which they had been born. I think is a very nice custom, however in my case, my middle name would be "Sondo" (born on Sunday)!! Hmmmm…
No matter kind of title you could have chosen, or are enthusiastic about for your "bundle of pleasure", its value doing a little research into the meaning. And it is never been simpler, with the wealth of Internet resources and books obtainable, together with my own site at www.all-about-baby-names.com, which is jam-filled with resources, ideas and knowledge on baby names, child name meanings and child products.
Your search may yield some surprises; for example, the beautiful-sounding identify "Malory" is French and means "Dangerous luck". You might get spherical this by spelling it "Mallory", however this means "With out luck" in Outdated German!
Alternatively, you could find yourself somewhat confused by completely different meanings of the same identify; for example "Leah" is a fantastic girl's identify, but what does it imply? Nicely…
" In Hebrew it means "Cow" or "Weary one" - uugghhh!
" In Greek it means "Glad tidings"
" In Assyrian, it means "Mistress, ruler"
And a ultimate warning: in case you are planning to go for a funky, unusual-sounding name, make sure to keep away from "Bacia," - its Ugandan which means is "Household deaths ruined the house!"
