Near Eastern Travel
Do you think that people migrating to Australia should at least Respect our culture?
Should their also be a minimum requirement as to how much of the English language they can speak? Because if we travel to a Middle Eastern country and don't abide by their beleifs, you'd damn near be jailed or executed!
Is English the official language in Australia? Then, yes, they have to learn English.
The US doesn't have an official language. Its Constitution and laws are in English because the founders were English or of English descent. English is still the language spoken by the majority of the population, so anybody who immigrates to the USA should learn English, at least a little. Since there isn't an official language, however, other languages can be spoken and used on TV, on the phone, on the web, etc. Most companies now have bilingual websites and customer service, owing to the massive immigration of people from Spanish-speaking countries.
As for respecting your culture, any culture should be respected. And if you choose to live in a place where the culture is different from yours, of course you have to respect it.
