Use Caution When Choosing International Destinations In A World Where Civilians Are Facing Off Against Extremists And/or Overbearing Government Entities
With continued tension across the Middle East, it is wise to always be aware of what is going on around you and if you are traveling in or around the region, then it is obligatory that you are up-to-date on developments as they happen. Currently, there are a numberof different situations that are influencing states all over Europe, Asia and Africa. Events are always in motion, and these locales experience recurring advances and retreats from the different sides involved. People would be sensible to carry passports and visas with them, though, irrespective of state of affairs.
In Saudi Arabia, Shiite protestors are calling for release of prisoners and demanding liberties. Another goal of the protesters is to get their monarchy to remove their troops from Bahrain. With the government attempting to silence public contempt, though, individual protestors must be careful to remain by-and-large anonymous.
With human liberties not being respected as they should be, the Islamic state is full of tension and upheaval, and for those staying in the country, the fear of being caught in the middle of such hostilities is very real. Travelers with a visa Saudi Arabia may take comfort in being treated more like a local citizen than an alien, but in view of the protests, are certainly in some danger.
The state of Libya is tenuous, as sects will likely compete for power and disrupt the plans of NATO. The Libyan population’s safety is still not a given, given the probability of further civil unrest.
In Egypt, things are improving, since former leader Mubarak and his sons have been overthrown and detained due to the killings in Tahrir Square. Egypt may be headed toward democracy, but the path will be long and treacherous.
