Islamic Dvd For Kids

What do you think? Gibberish or "Islam is the light!"....?
Curious what y'all think about Fisher Price's new "Islam is the light!" doll? You going to buy one for your kids? Would be good if there was some note on the package that this is a baby zealot or something huh? Maybe a "Surgeon Generals Warning"? Can you think of one?

I suspect they have an Islamic extremist in their product development section they need to ferret out... though I understand Fisher Price is denying it stating that the only distinctive word the doll says is "Momma" and all the rest is gibberish... I can see that. But then another phrase the baby doll says is "Satan is King!" and "Obama for President!" That kind of seals it... a disgruntled employee a communist? Reminds me of the penis painted into the castles on the "Little Mermaid" DVD box a few years back. LOL
No recalls yet though many parents are upset about it. What do you think?
Many times, our hearing can be tricky. People who develop these kinds of dolls probably think they are hearing gibberish because that is what they programmed the doll to say. However, other people put together sounds when they hear something because they have no expectations of what they are going to say. In this case, the doll sounds like it is saying "Islam is the light." However, how many people would have noticed that if they had not been told it was saying that phrase? Perhaps many would have caught on, but others would not have noticed even after hearing it five thousand times because their child is momentarily obsessed with a talking baby. I highly doubt this was done on purpose, but rather it was programmed poorly. Many time, these companies program a doll to say things that are not considered words, so they string together some sounds so the baby has that cute baby-talk sound. Sometimes, in stringing together some of these sounds, they accidentally create phrases. I believe this to be pretty unintentional as any staffer found deliberately programming such phrases would be canned without question.
When this hit the news, on reporter put the doll out for people to hear, without telling them anything about the doll. Those who listened to it, could not make out anything intelligible. Perhaps there is a lot to be said for the power of suggestion, psychologically one of the most powerful mental tools in the human arsenal. Also, kids are most likely not going to pick up on that phrase because their hearing is so much different in the early years of life. They may hear sounds different than we hear because of developing areas of the brain. As someone who works in special education, a lot of students can't hear some of the most basic sounds. In other words, the brain doesn't process them correctly. They then go through tutoring to teach the brain how to hear certain sounds. So, stores are going to pull them off the shelves, and others will get a good laugh.
Would I buy one for my daughter? No, because talking dolls annoy the crap out of me.
