The call for celebratory events occurs worldwide as different occasions and occurrences invite the need for celebrations by paying special tributes or enjoying party festivities. Different occasions call for different needs and every type of celebratory event is usually dependent on culture and/or religion. However, there are some celebrations that occur on a global span, despite different avenues or names in which each celebration is partaken. Certain monumental celebrations occur, as some significant events are important to all aspects of culture and religion.
Some of the most popular celebrations include the following:
Christmas
The traditional Christmas occasion commemorating the birth of Christianity’s central figure, Jesus Christ, is usually celebrated annually on December 25th. However, the actual date of the birth of Jesus Christ is unknown. In addition to Christians, non-Christians have made the occasion a staple yearly celebration. The celebrations are more popularly referred to “the holiday season”, as there has been much debate on the use of a religious figure’s name in what has been accepted additionally as a secular holiday. Common modern holiday customs include gifts and greeting cards, special meals and parties, music and religious celebrations. Holiday decorations are a popular display to mark the season and include Christmas trees, lights, holy, garlands, mistletoe and traditional nativity scenes. Different cultures have created multiple aspects of holiday celebrations, such as the Western story of Santa Claus, also commonly referred to as Father Christmas, who is a popular Christmas hero that gives gifts to people around the world. Other cultures that celebrate the occasion under similar circumstances are the Jewish Hanukkah, the German Yule, and the African Kwanzaa.
Birthdays
Birthdays are a marked day of celebration that commemorates the particular month and day a person was born. Birthdays are celebrated across the globe. In different cultures, there are different ages that mark milestones in a person’s life. For example, in Jewish culture, a bar mitzvah for 13-year-old Jewish boys and a bat mitzvah for 12-year old Jewish girls are significant indications of the Jewish transition into adulthood, where they are expected to maintain their own responsibilities. In American culture, the age of 16 for girls tends to be a significant event as it marks a girl’s transition into adulthood. Birthdays are celebrated in a variety of different ways, usually based on the person’s specific age and interests.
Graduation
Whether a person has achieved a milestone in primary, secondary or post-secondary education, the accomplishment of completing any form of schooling usually calls for a celebration. The ability to achieve higher levels of education is an important aspect of culture worldwide, and the celebration of these achievements is highly regarded in many cultures. Highlight graduation occasions are the completion of secondary school and post-secondary education. However, as it is becoming more popular to further split sections of school levels, graduation celebrations during younger schooling years are becoming more popular as celebratory occasions.
Career
Not only is a transition into a role of higher success a call for celebration, it is a highly regarded achievement. People celebrate the events of new jobs, promising promotions and desirable transfers every day as they happily reach and overcome career milestones. In the same aspect as education, attaining higher levels of success in one's career calls for celebration in any part of the world.
