Greek Armour History

Hoplite Phalanx?
I am studying for my midterm in my western civilization class. In order to study, im essentially taking the test by writing out who, what, when, where, how and why the term is importent to history in a short paragraph like the test. If you could please look over what I have written and see if there is anything i have missed, just keep into account that i have 20 of these that i have to study for the test. Thank you.
Hoplite Phalanx:
The hoplite phalanx was a battlefield tactic of the Archaic Greeks, used over much of the first millenea BCE. It was a tightly ordered unit of heavily armed, pike bearing men. It was created due to closer unit formation and the spreadin concept of the family farm. Because of the family farm more men were able to afford the armour so critical to the hoplite phalanx. The hoplite phalanx reigned supreme until its defeat in the 2nd century BCE by the Romans.
I have nothing mixed up. the key word i have to define is Hoplite phalanx
1. You might want to go into more detail about why the phalanx was crucial, and how it was an excellent formation for defending against cavalry attacks ("normal" infantry formations were butchered by cavalry).
Might also mention how phalanx formations were used to absorb cavalry charges up until about 1900 (infantry "squares", like the redcoats and their bayonets)
2. Millennia is spelt with two n's, not one (I know thats being picky and splitting hairs)
3. Phalanxes were also important for the whole shield-wall concept, which the Romans adopted for their tortises.
I think thats pretty much it...
EDIT:
You should also include the Phalanx's weaknesses.
They were weak against ranged units and light infantry, which could easily outmanouver a lumbering phalanx.
Also, siege weapons were also used against phalanxes to desvastating effect with the crowded infantry and whatnot. Having a bronze circle shield will NOT protect you and your friends from being crushed by an eight-hundred pound boulder.

Roman Imperial Armour: The Production of Early Imperial Military Armour $33.77 The Roman Empire depended on the power of its armies to defend and extend the imperial borders, enabling it to dominate much of Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East. Success was, in large part, founded on well-trained, well-disciplined soldiers who were equipped with the most advanced arms and armour available at that time. This is the story of the production of that armour. Roman Imperial ... |
