What effect did The Fall of Poland, The Low Countries and France have on WW2

It is all in the script. At last (at least) it must have removed the last doubts in British mind and that Britain is fighting an almost unequal war what with the Russian perfidy (every country has its national interests). It shows the failure of TOV that Britain & France built up so assiduously. But America was unmoved. Perhaps it was due to the expectation of these two that the common Anglo-Saxon ancestry would make them immune. They needed to bide time till German-Russian 'understanding' came to an end, prompting Russians to join the allies. Already the heat was felt by Britain when the low countries were run over. But in spite of some notable 'sinkings' Britain held its ground in the Atlantic to Germans' chagrin. France in exile was a pathetic sight, with its empire almost 'safe' under the belt. Why didn't 'Vichy' move to claim the Empire?
