Visit Tunisia On Holiday
Fashion trends seem to dictate popular tourist destinations to the point that as soon as a celebrity is spotted on a yacht or outside a nightclub in a particular area, it instantly becomes the next holiday destination for the masses. Though why are the celebrities there in the first place? What or who told them to go there for a holiday? Did they pick up the latest issue of OK magazine and see another celebrity there? Maybe it is down to the appeal that the area offers?
There are a diverse range of trendy holiday destinations that are constantly popular with tourists, sometimes because they offer the best of one particular thing and sometimes because they are able to combine a number of different things well. Countries around the Mediterranean Sea have always been popular tourist destinations due to the weather, the landscape and the beautiful sea, and Tunisia is no exception.
Tunisia is a country of just over ten million inhabitants on the northern coast of Africa. It is actually the northernmost country in Africa and is flanked by Algeria to the west and Libya to the south-east. The Tunisian Republic, to give it its official name, boasts a massive eight hundred and ten miles of coastline and a large proportion of the south of the country is taken up by the Sahara Desert.
Some might say that Tunisia's coastline is its best asset, but that opinion is subjective and although it offers some of the best beaches in the Mediterranean sea, there is a lot more to Tunisia than sand. If it is a good beach you are looking for, the most popular in Tunisia is Port el-Kantaoui, with Hammamet beach coming a close second. Port el-Kantaoui is a tourist complex that was actually first modeled on the French town of Port Grimaud.
One of the biggest tourist pullers in Tunisia is the fact that some of the highest grossing films of the last fifty years have been filmed there. Two Star Wars films, an Indiana Jones movie, and the English Patient were all filmed on location in Tunisia. Finding the filming locations may be a little trickier than you imagine, though there is sufficient information available on the internet to help guide you. One particular location that will not be hard to find is the Sidi Driss Star Wars Hotel in Matmata. This hotel was used as a location in the film Star Wars: A New Hope, which was filmed in 1976.
