Celtic Ion

How many native Celtic languages are spoken in the UK and Ireland?
Other than standard English, Gaelic (in Ireland) and Welsh (in Wales), what Celtic languages still survive ion the UK and Ireland? What is the most ancient language in Scotland that is still spoken? Is there a ancient language other than English spoken in England? Thanks
English isn't a Celtic language. English is derrived from the German spoken by the Saxons when they invaded Britain.
The celtic languages still spoken on a day to day basis are Welsh (spoken by 750,000 people, primarily in Wales), Irish (Spoken by around 350,000 in Ireland) and to a lesser extent Scots Gaelic (spoken by around 50,000 people in Northern Scotland).
However there is also Manx and Cornish.
Manx was the language of the Isle of Man, very similar to Scots Gaelic and Irish. It went extinct a few years back, but it's now being taught in schools in a late attempt to save the language.
There are still some 2000 Cornish speakers living in Cornwall. Cornish is similar to Welsh, but is only really spoken by old people. The language shall die with this generation, which is a real shame.
The only other British language is Scots, spoken by some in southern Scotland. However if you read it you realise it's just a form of archaic English. It's not a sepperate language, it's just a strong dialect.
Welsh is by far the strongest language. It's survived 700 years of English rule, and is now growing very slowly. Irish is in a weak position, spoken in Northern Ireland as a protest language only, and only spoken in isolated comunities in western Ireland. Scots Gaelic is very weak, and faces a real fight to stay alive.
