Something regular being done and taught to learn guitar solo is sliding on the frets and tweaking of the string. Those styles add a little spice to a note or complete the message of the music. There is a lot more that could be done to improvise on guitar solo. Tapping on the strings give also a unique sound whether on the frets or strum area. Adding life also would be tapping the guitar itself to mimic drum sounds.
