Pirates are a classic Halloween costume. All and sundry loves to dress up like a Pirate at the very least once. It's probably not that hard to create a costume with over sized, old clothing and a bandanna but you'd probably need a handful of props to really convince that you are a brigand. A sword, eye patch or captain hat is perhaps all you need to add to appear to be a legendary pirate.
How about topical costumes ? Consider reports in the news and shape a costume based on the person or people caught up in the story. A couple of years back it was octomom. Last year it was Barack Obama. What about wrapping a 9 iron around your neck and wearing golf gear and pretend you are Tiger Woods. I'm sure there are a few stories that will break prior to Halloween to inspire you to create that topical and witty outfit that will have the party chuckling.
